SOUTH MISSISSIPPI SNOW DAY

Where I live in south Mississippi, a snow day comes about once every five years. We had one last week, a couple of inches, not much. However, even a little snow can pretty much shut down the town. We try not to drive when it is snowing, but that doesn’t keep us from going outside and […]

THE OLD MAN AND THE MANURE PILE

Fresh horse manure right out of the ‘tube’ stinks pretty bad. However, once the manure has aged a bit, it stinks less. After a while, when nicely composted, it will even acquire a nice earthy smell that hints of the new life and vitality of the soil. For us old guys, regrets linger, like manure […]

The worldview of the godly Jew at the time of Christ was steeped in the prophecies of Zechariah. At every point in the unfolding story of Jesus in the four gospels, loomed the large shadow of Zechariah the prophet. Zechariah’s Link to the Christmas story The Holy Spirit is the olive oil that fuels the […]

DO ANIMALS HAVE SOULS? (PART 2)

Do animals have souls like people do? Well, yes and no. Let me explain. Animals can think (intellect), love (emotion), and make independent decisions (volition). The ability to do these things was given to mankind and to many of the animals, including kittens, puppies, and ponies. These attributes reside in the soul and constitute personhood. So, in this sense, animals have souls. Animals have their own unique personalities and temperaments and can think, love, and make decisions, much like we do.

TRUTH EXERCISE: HOW TO MAKE THE HEART GROW STRONGER

Hearing and believing truth is the exercise regimen for the soul. Spiritual health and vitality come with the repeated lifting of truth, the heavier the truth, the stronger the faith becomes. When the truth of God is heard and believed, it transforms the mind and heart. It strengthens the soul. It cleanses the spirit. It […]
